Maniac, 2025
An assignment prompted as 'Make a one-minute musical, using only one light, about being weird at the end of the world.' I casted Larissa Lee immediately as I knew she would be the perfect fit for this, and we decided on 'Maniac' by Conan Gray quickly. I wanted to portray how she was just a typical being in society, just a student in lectures, who freaks out later and takes control instead of being the listener and follower. How we find her dancing going crazy all around the lecture hall, letting her own voice be heard, almost as if its the end of her world.
Freudian, 2024
Freudian was a short film I did with my two friends, Josh Cenezero, and Erin Lee's help. Inspired by 'Freudian' by Daniel Caesar and Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis theories, how we attribute our thoughts and actions to unconscious motives, to the theory of the unconscious mind, unacceptable feelings deep down and anxieties, how we’d overthink from mixed signals and become hesitant. I wanted to portray how lighthearted our generation takes relationships, almost as if genuinity isn’t appreciated anymore.
Document of the City, 2024
A documentary filmed for a group project assignment where we were prompted to tell stories of immigration and culture in specific locations. My group chose Richmond Public Market as a culture we're familiar with is gathered there. We interviewed a few stalls in their native language to keep their answers authentic, it was eye-opening to hear the stories of older immigrants moving here as a new immigrant who migrated to Vancouver, BC recently. I loved seeing how Vancouver meant such different things to each immigrants and I relate as well.
The Argument, 2024
An assignment where I was given a script to shoot, then directed in a tragically dramatic direction. From framing shots, colours, to performances, I wanted to express the idea of how they’re so distant and all they have is the ring holding them back together. I chose the location of these pale, void, concrete stairwells, which I find resembling the two characters' relationship, so heartless that barely any warmth is found in the way they act around each other, exaggerating the emptiness and distance between them.
Chat, 2025
An assignment prompted as 'Make a one-minute film using A.I. on some level, and which has as its goal to make poetry from that A.I.'s imperfections.' Inspired by a true story a friend once told me about her boyfriend asking Chat GPT for advice on cheating. I decided to present this story so ridiculous you wouldn't even believe it. I find this story portrays how silly guys are when it comes to relationship problems and how unrealistic and unreliable Chat GPT is yet the new generation relies on it for almost everything you could need help for.
